What should I do?

Problems and questions related to Bricks-OS on the GameCube and Wii

At last, I got a (borrowed) Wii to test if Bricks-OS works. A binary that I know worked before (see screenshot in screenshots page) now doesn't, HBC reports it to be an invalid binary. The v0.0.3 demo DOES load, but gives a black screen like you said. So I removed the binary from the download page.

Previously I used a simple TCP/IP loader (don't remember the exact name) to run homebrew on the Wii, now I'm using the HBC. I think the HBC has more/other restrictions when loading .dol/.elf files, compared to the loader I used before. And perhaps a different initialization sequence could be cousing the black screen.

Anyway, it can't be difficult to get Bricks-OS compatible with the HBC.

I'll keep you updated.

EDIT: @drkmagus what loader did you use to run Bricks-OS?

I found the loader I was using before: TCP Loader. Using that loader I can load both files. So why doesn't HBC load my files? What I tried is:

- Load the "template" from the devKitPRO examples, that works.
- Copy paste the entire template example to the beginning of main() in bricks-os... does NOT work?!

This is all very strange...

hi everyone^^
Sorry for the late reply...
I use homebrew channel beta 8 (take care of the HBC beta 9, got troubles with ELF )

And aslo take care with the new wii update, it cause homebrew troubles...
safe version is 3.2e v1

gbatemp source about new update:

* This blocks new installations of anything fakesigned, that is, Homebrew Channel, wads (legal and illegal), Starfall, cIOS, anything that installs IOSes secretly like AnyRegion Changer or AnyTitle Deleter, xyzzy and DVDX (used for apps which have DVD support). This list is not exhaustive, but please add to it if you think of anything else.
* If something is already installed then it isn't affected, like Homebrew Channel, etc.
* The homebrew developers are already planning how they could work against this.
* You currently need this update to access the Wii Shop Channel.
* If you already have the Homebrew Channel and DVDX, and aren't planning to install anything big that will affect your Wii, then you are most likely unaffected. Normal everyday apps such as Homebrew Browser are completely unaffected as long as you already have the Homebrew Channel.
* It updates all IOSes with the fakesigning bug, and adds IOS51.

Ok, I tried using HBC beta9 with .dol file (elf version gave me an error message), perhaps it has problems with some .dol files also?

Things to do:
- Try HBC beta8
- Try loading with Twilight Hack

Thank you for the info, I won't update the Wii.

There is no problem with .dol files
just to be sure, you are trying to load a "new" version of bricks os right?
did the last version (the one i tried) load via HBC?

Good question! I was using a "new" vesion of the same source, both "should" be the same but aperantly they are NOT. Here is a list of what I have tested so far:

binary version:
1: binary with HBCv9-SD -> works
2: binary with HBCv9-WiFi -> works
3: binary with TCP Loader -> works
4: binary with Twilight Hack -> works
source version:
5: source with HBCv9-SD -> black screen
6: source with HBCv9-WiFi -> black screen
7: source with TCP Loader -> works
8: source with Twilight Hack -> works

The only thing changed between the two versions could be devKitPPC and libogc, I know I updated them a few days ago.

After a lot more testing I found a solution for the problem:

When creating the previous release I used libogc-20080228, later I used libogc-20080602 (which includes WiiMote support). I have now gone back to using the older version of libogc, and now I can use HBC to load Bricks-OS again.

I know, it's a workaround. But it'll do for now.
