Subversion Repository Moved Discuss ( 0 )

As you may have noticed, the subversion repository has moved from SourceForge to Google Code.

I moved becouse Google Code gives a great look into the changes made between revisions. Browsing the history and differences has never been so easy. Plus the website looks nice and clean, without lots of adds.
Quake up and Running Discuss ( 0 )
Posten on: Mar 10, 2009 - By: Maximus32
Quake is finally up and running using the Bricks-OS Graphics Library. I've uploaded some screenshots so take a look at the result.

New features include:
- Perspective correct texture mapping
- Texture environment
- Bilinear filtering
- Alpha blending
- Alpha testing

Please note that these screenshots are NOT from a console, becouse there is no file-system support yet. What you see is Quake running a 640x480 resolution, with 32bpp. Bilinear filering turned ON. Using this quality the framerate is around 16fps (running on a single-core, amd 2.2GHz).
Let's play Quake Discuss ( 0 )

Today I found out I had over 200 extra users in the forum from the last couple of days. Some automated system trying to fill the forum with SPAM. I don't know how they got around the CAPTCHA, but they somehow did. As a result I had to clean up the forum. Hopefully I haven't removed anything other that spam.

Moving over to a status update:
Currently I'm working on improving the software 3D graphics library. I'm doing all the testing in linux (not on a console), so I have the advantages of proper debugging and a filesystem (things Bricks-OS still does not have). And at the moment it's running Quake! Though still far from finished, it's nice to finally be able to play a game, instead of watching a rotating pyramid. As soon as the glitches are fixed I'll post a screenshot of Quake rendered with the new Bricks-OS software 3D graphics library.
PONG for the Gameboy Advance Discuss ( 1 )
Posten on: Nov 28, 2008 - By: Maximus32
Here's something fun to play with: PONG!

Try to get (and keep) the speedbar full. There's no points or winning to this game. It's just a simple demonstration of the 2D and input interface in Bricks-OS.

A screenshot has been added to the screenshots page, and a download for the Gameboy Advance is available on the download page.

So yesterday I placed a message in the gbadev forum, my first release of Bricks-OS. Somehow the news got around fast and my post ended up on a lot of websites, giving me tons of visitors!

I would like to welcome all visitors! And since this is a special day, I'll give you all a teaser:

Combined 2D/3D rendering and texture mapping. ON A GameBoy Advance!!

Looks cool doesn't it? But since I can't get this one to work on all supported consoles yet, I'm not going to release it.
Playstation 2 Dithering test added Discuss ( 0 )
Posten on: Oct 18, 2008 - By: Maximus32
While trying out the different screen modes of the PS2, I found an option for hardware dithering. This dithering can be used to improve the image quality when using 16bit color depth (the only depth avalable in the high resolution modes).

The results are truely amazing. The 16bit dithered image looks almost as good as the 24/32bit versions. So I added a few downloads to the download section:
- a PAL/NTSC version (Everyone with a PS2 should be able to use this)
- a Full HD 1080i version. Please note that it is really 1920x1080 pixels. No cropping and no stretching.
- an SXGA (1280x1024) version. Same here: No cropping and no stretching.

Bricks-OS v0.0.3 has been released.

This release demonstrates basic 3D rendering (a smooth shaded pyramid) on all supported consoles. Note that on some platforms the pyramid can be rotated with the controls.

Precompiled binaries can be downloaded from the download page.
Screenshots from the beta versions are available on screenshots page.
